The Principal Himself Conducts a Reverse Interview

▲The Tribune, the club responsible for the school's English newspaper, initiated an unusual event where a reverse interview took place with the principal of Michuhol Foreign Language High School, Kim Jin-Young. This interview differed from previous ones in that the principal posed questions to the students, who then responded.

The interview began with questions regarding the principal's vision for the school. Student, Kim Junwoo, responded that the principal's role should involve striving to enhance students' convenience and happiness. He appreciated initiatives such as the poetry delivery service and the pansori performances at small concerts, which he found both encouraging and entertaining. He concluded by expressing his hopes that the principal would continue to work towards improving the student welfare. In response, the principal conveyed his commitment to assisting students to the best of his ability, emphasizing his willingness to continue delivering poems and organizing small concerts when opportunities arose.

Following this, the principal inquired about the popular spots outside of Michuhol. Student, Cho Hojung, identified the vending machine, frequently crowded and requiring waiting in line, as well as the walking path and gym, frequently used by students during the lunch and dinner period, as the school's hotspots. The principal shared his own use of the walking path and his intention to visit the gym during his lunch break.

The next question pertained to the most meaningful activities at school. Student Kang Hyerin mentioned her involvement in the Admissions Promotion Club as her most meaningful activity. She expressed pride in seeing middle school students participate in the club's events and acknowledged that being a part of various clubs had broadened her career perspective. In response, the principal commended such activities as a strength of the school and appreciated their significance.

Continuing the discussion, the principal sought recommendations from the students. Cho Hojung proposed different dormitory entry times for different grade levels to eliminate the commotion. She also suggested allowing students to choose to go into the dorm early, making the second session of self-study optional. Additionally, she requested a direct line of communication between the principal and the students.

In response to the same question, Kim Soo-Lin advocated for a change in the division of floors by grade level. Instead of the current arrangement where freshmen occupy the third floor, sophomores the fourth, and seniors the fifth, she proposed that freshmen occupy the fifth floor, sophomores the fourth, and seniors the third. The principal acknowledged the complexity of this issue, emphasizing that it would require careful consideration. He also encouraged students to contact him or the vice principal directly if they had any further suggestions.

Concluding the reverse interview, Kim Jun-Woo expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the principal in a relaxed manner. He highlighted the significance of this interaction, particularly for students who did not often have the opportunity to interact directly with the principal. As a student aspiring to become a teacher, he shared his ambition to become a principal like the one at Michuhol, eliciting laughter.

In conclusion, the principal characterized the interview as a novel and meaningful experience, shifting from the usual role of him being interviewed to conducting interviews with the students. He emphasized his commitment to listening to students' opinions, encouraging them not to hesitate to visit his office or engage in conversations with him in the hallway in the future.
