What Do 1st Grade Have to Prepare for 2nd Grade Electives?

▲As a first-year student at MCH, one of the experiences you will have to go through is choosing electives. Many students lack basic information about the subject they choose. In particular, for first-year MCH students, who will have the most important year ahead, we will introduce basic explanations of second-year electives and how to prepare them

Life and Ethics

Many students choose to take this course in their social studies program. Why is it always the most popular choice for the social studies option on the national college entrance exam(Suneung)? Some people may have chosen it because they think it requires less memorization than other subjects, and they want to know if this is true. To find out, we're going to explain based on an interview. The student did not have any difficulties in the process of studying, but he mentioned the need for additional in-depth study because it was difficult to get a first and second grade on the national college entrance exam(Suneung) and practice tests with only the textbook content. Therefore, the class is also centered on study sheets with additional content rather than textbooks, and they said that they look at the original works of thinkers as in-depth materials and the importance of in-depth learning. Therefore, listening to the teacher's lectures, taking notes on the study sheets, and studying meticulously are important factors for achieving high scores. She also emphasized the need to solve many problems because there are many different expressions for the same concept. Since the test requires multilingual skills, there are often errors in the questions, so she recommended that students ask their teachers for advice if they are confused. In addition, if most of the students in our school take the national college entrance exam(Suneung), they will choose the social studies course, and they will choose the life and ethics course in the second year and the social-culture course in the third year, but the progression is very fast because they have to learn the life and ethics course in one semester, so they should prepare for the national college entrance exam(Suneung) and the national exam together by making notes and clarifying concepts rather than studying by memorization to prepare for the national exam.

Life Sciences

At Michuhol, many students choose life sciences as their science elective course. Life science is the study of life and living organisms. Many students will wonder if there is any overlap with what they learned in first grade. Testimonials indicate that there is, but it's more of a deep dive than an overlap. Even if there is some overlap, it provides a more in-depth experience in learning about life sciences. In addition, he said that he had no background knowledge and got a grade of 4 in the midterm exam, but in the final exam, he memorized the concepts well and got the 4th place in the whole school, showing that regardless of background knowledge, he was able to improve his grades with hard work and determination. Finally, he said that since life science is a concept-oriented subject, even students who are not talented in science can achieve high grades if they put in the effort and study a lot.

Psychology

Next up is Psychology. According to one student's review, even if psychology is not directly related to their intended career or major, most of the time they are able to follow along in class and show interest. Of course, it's better if the student is already interested in psychology, but even if they aren't, they said they don't mind taking psychology classes because it's taught at the high school level. In his classes, the psychology teacher would explain things in an easy-to-understand way with examples and students would share their own experiences, so there was no pressure on him, and he rarely used textbooks. "I think psychology, at least the way I was taught and the way you're going to be taught, is a 'theoretical approach to me'. To name some of the actual course content, 'Early childhood development and parenting styles', 'Love styles', etc. "She adds. In psychology, there is a time to learn academic theories and share experiences, so I would recommend this class to students who are interested in theoretically analyzing and uncovering human behavior and emotional traits, but I would not recommend it to friends who are shy or have difficulties with public speaking because it is a presentation-based class. As for the skills required to take a psychology class, it turns out that a willingness to work hard in class and active participation are essential.

Creative Design Thinking and Business Model

Next up is Creative Design Thinking and Business Model. The first thing you might be wondering is how the classes work. According to the testimonials of actual students, the first step is to read Business Administration is Easy in parts, summarize and give a presentation, and then create creative solutions to solve modern problems. You may also wonder if students who lack economic terminology or knowledge will have a hard time taking this course. However, there are no classes that utilize economic terms, so it is not necessary to know them to understand the material. This course is mostly taken by students who want to pursue a career in business and economics, so if that's what you want to do, this is the course for you.

Music Appreciation and Criticism

Next, let's talk about the subject of ‘music appreciation and criticism’. First of all, the 14th MCH, the current first grade, has only "music appreciation and criticism," but the current second grade has two art options: "music appreciation and criticism" and "art appreciation and criticism." Students who chose music appreciation and criticism chose this because they felt pressured to come up with ideas, were not good at drawing, or were able to relieve stress through listening to music. According to the student who actually took the class, he actually worried about practical activities, such as listening to music or singing before taking the class. However, unlike worries, he was able to participate in the class with a pleasant mind because what he encountered in the actual class was a theory-oriented class which all students could participate fairly. For this reason, I would like to say that students who are worried about individual musical capabilities such as singing do not need much musical capabilities in music appreciation and criticism.
