The integration and application of gained knowledge across multiple domains is crucial in the knowledge and information society, where numerous things, including big data and AI, have lately gone digital. This is obviously not the same as the pursuit of fixed knowledge that characterizes the industrial age. Furthermore, in an effort to seize Korea's chance to lead the intelligent information society and become a creative and convergence talent powerhouse, the Ministry of Education has just announced its education strategy for the next ten years. We are looking for answers in education during the fourth Industrial Revolution, when 'disruptive innovation' is expected in terms of scale and speed of change. As a legal basis for this, the Ministry of Education announced the implementation of a convergence major system as a follow-up measure to the 'university academic system improvement plan' prepared on December 9, 2016, to allow universities to operate the academic system more flexibly in response to the fourth industrial revolution. The partial amendment decree of the Enforcement Decree of the Higher Education Act, the majority of which was passed at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
STEAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics and is a benchmark of American STEM education, is the term used to describe "creative convergence education," a concept that is quickly gaining traction in the educational field. To put it another way, it's an education designed to develop future potential in the big data era by transforming technical and engineering thinking into creative thought based on five aspects of convergence with science and math.
The following are some of the factors that make this creative convergence education crucial. First, by merging two or more distinct disciplines into one, it helps in the development of students' problem-solving abilities. Second, we use this information to assist students improve in the field of science and technology by increasing their interest in and comprehension of it, as well as helping them acquire practical problem-solving abilities that they can employ in the real world.
What kinds of creative convergence education are there? First, a program that explores the topic of "good AI that helps people" is available. This subject was created to use AI to assist students in establishing the ideals they ought to uphold while residing in society. Given how quickly AI is developing technologically, it's critical to be able to discern between the truth and falsehoods from the viewpoint of an independent user. As a result, the goal of this program is to solve problems using creative ideas and one's own values. The next case is “In Search of the Dream of the Night Sky.” "What kind of education is needed for students who use smartphones as the most familiar tool in their daily lives?" was the initial question that guided the creation of this curriculum, which was created for sixth-grade elementary school students. Later on, it evolved into the current curriculum, which blends academic content with the study of celestial bodies. This program is meant to assist you in considering different teaching strategies, discussing issues with others, and getting better outcomes. In the end, this program combined multiple topics into a single form and held classes to gather different resources and let students use them.
The ability of students to deal with complicated problems creatively in the actual world is greatly enhanced by these instances of creative convergence education. By doing this, students can combine technical and scientific thinking with creative thinking to improve real-world problem-solving abilities. In the end, creative convergence education is becoming recognized as an essential strategy for developing the convergent and creative skills required for our society to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
