Myeonbul

Currently, Michuhol Foreign Language High School has a lot of self-study time called ‘Myeonhak’. However, since electronic devices cannot be used during Myeonhak. So, there is a system called Myeonbul to compensate for this. Myeonbul is to allow electronic devices to be used in a space separately provided during Myeonhak. The rules vary from grade to grade. The rules for first graders are as follows: 1. Myeonbul is accepted before lunchtime. 2. The Myeonbul place is next to 104 and next to 108, and if there is a special reason, home base or Jakdang is also available. 3. Myeonbul is allowed only 8 Myeonhak and 1 Myeonhak. 4. The maximum amount of time a person can use for a week is a total of four hours. 5. Up to six people can apply per class per hour.

However, unlike mentioned in the rules, special areas such as  ‘Jakdang’ and ‘Home-Base’ are rarely permitted to perform ‘Myeon-Bul’. Due to this reason, the number of students who can use ‘Myeon-Bul’ is immoderately restricted to 6 students per class. As there are restrictions to how many people can access ‘Myeon-Bul’, not every student can use electronic devices to perform their assignments. Thereby, left with no choice, students have to cut off some excess demand by themselves, using methods such as rock-paper-scissors or “first come, first served”. Occasionally, when there come those days when an unbearable amount of assignments are handed out, students of classes in which the “first come, first served” method is adopted can be seen waiting in advance for a long time. Students who fail to obtain ‘Myeon-Bul’, stay up all night on weekends, or come to school early in the morning. Also, they tend to skip meals and do their homework during lunch and dinner time. As mentioned earlier, these problems arise because of the current limited number of students who can be accommodated in the available places, and more students are required to perform their assignments. It can be of great help to reorganize the ‘Myeon-Bul' place to resolve these inconveniences. Adding ‘Jakdang’, ‘home base, printer room, or group study room that is not currently used to the ‘Myeon-Bul’ area could prevent many students from staying up all night to complete their assignments over the weekend. The Myeon-Bul managers of each class requested to do it in an empty space(Jakdang, Home-Base, and so on), but it was not allowed, and the reason for this was not explained, leaving many students wondering.

To be a student at Michuhol High School, we have to study and submit our assignments by the deadline. These things make students stressed out. Hence, it is important to secure our own time for accomplishing these tasks. If you are a Michuhol high school student, you’ll know that we don’t have enough time even though we try to finish assignments during the weekend. It’s time to talk about revising the system of ‘Myeon-Hak’, to replenish ‘Myeon-Bul’ places for utilizing empty places. I hope that there will be a change in the ‘Myeon-Bul’ system so that students can be satisfied with using time efficiently.
